Please note there are 2 types of “lithium” batteries. Lithium-Ion batteries are rechargeable and should be collected with rechargeable batteries. Single use lithium batteries are most often used in cameras and look a lot like AAA alkaline batteries. Some are short and squat, and some are almost rectangular. Read on for more details.
Lithium: Lithium batteries are used in many applications but most often in cameras. The word “lithium” is printed on the battery. Be sure to check all batteries; some lithium batteries, such as the AA size or short and fat lithium batteries used in cameras, resemble alkaline batteries, but should be recycled via the special collection pails at transfer stations; hand to attendant. Or they may be brought to the Regional Hazardous Waste Collection Sites at Colrain and Conway transfer stations. They may also be brought to the District Office at 117 Main St., 2nd Floor in Greenfield.
Lithium-Ion: These rechargeable batteries are typically found in laptop computers, cell phones, and more. They can be recycled in the special battery pails at all town transfer stations; hand to attendant. They may also be brought to the Town Halls in Erving, Gill, Hawley, and Sunderland. Or they may be brought to the Regional Hazardous Waste Collection Sites at Colrain and Conway transfer stations. They may also be brought to the District Office at 117 Main St., 2nd Floor in Greenfield.
