Fluorescent Light Bulbs, including compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) See Fluorescent Bulb Recycling
These contain mercury and cannot be placed in the trash. They can be brought to the Regional Hazardous Waste Collection Sites at Colrain and Conway transfer stations.
Disposal is available for residents of Buckland, Charlemont, Deerfield, Heath, Montague, Leverett, New Salem, Northfield, Orange, Rowe, Shelburne, Warwick, Wendell, and Whately at their towns' transfer stations. There may be a disposal fee.
Expired, unbroken CFLs may be brought to any Home Depot store (returns desk), any Aubuchon Hardware store, or the Solar Store in Greenfield for recycling. There is no charge.
Halogen Light Bulbs
These bulbs may be disposed of in the trash. They are not recyclable.
Holiday Lights / Light Strings
Strings of holiday lights may be brought directly to WTE, which will reclaim the metal in the wiring. The other option is to put them in the trash. Do NOT put them in recycling boxes or in the scrap metal collections at transfer stations.
Incandescent Light Bulbs
These bulbs may be disposed of in the trash. They are not recyclable.
LED Bulbs
These bulbs may be disposed of in the trash. They are not recyclable.
Light Ballasts
These are hazardous materials and must be brought to the Regional Hazardous Waste Collection Sites at the Colrain and Conway transfer stations.
Disposal is also available for residents of Heath, Montague, and Orange at their towns' transfer stations.
There may be a disposal fee.
