Collection sites at Greenfield Community College (GCC) and Orange Transfer Station

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

CARS WITHOUT A REGISTRATION POSTCARD WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO UNLOAD.

For residents and businesses in the following towns:
Athol, Barre*, Bernardston, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Conway, Deerfield, Erving, Gill, Hawley, Heath, Leverett, Montague, New Salem, Northfield, Orange, Petersham, Phillipston, Rowe, Royalston, Shelburne, Sunderland*, Warwick, Wendell, Whately

*Residents of Barre and Sunderland must pay to participate.

You must PRE-REGISTER to participate. After registering, you will receive a postcard in the mail assigning you a time and giving you directions to the collection site. Please call our office if you haven't received a card within seven days of submitting your information. All registration cards will be emailed between 9/16 and 9/23.

Businesses will be charged for disposal cost. Call 413-772-2438 for business registration information.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

We are planning our collection event with health and safety precautions. To participate you must: remain inside your vehicle and place all of your waste in the trunk, rear cargo area, or truck bed.

Materials NOT collected this year: auto batteries, household batteries, mercury thermostats, mercury thermometers. Most town transfer stations accept these items year-round.

FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS* (see below for alternate disposal options), LATEX PAINT, ASBESTOS, GAS CYLINDERS, RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL, EMPTY CONTAINERS FROM HAZARDOUS PRODUCTS, EXPLOSIVES INCLUDING AMMUNITION AND FIREWORKS

*At the annual Hazardous Waste Collection Day, only mercury-containing items such as thermostats and thermometers will be accepted; fluorescent bulbs are no longer accepted at the annual Hazardous Waste Collection Day. CFLs and other fluorescent bulbs are accepted at the following locations: Lowe’s Stores; at all District transfer stations (handle carefully and hand to attendant); and Greenfield Transfer Station (handle carefully and hand to attendant). Additionally, mercury-containing items and bulbs are accepted at the Regional Hazardous Waste Collection sites in Bernardston, Colrain, and Conway.
