PLEASE RECYCLE -- Don't Forget to Reuse When Possible!

Keep these materials together clean and dry and separate from commingled containers.

recycle paper

  • All paper and cardboard must be clean & dry
  • Junk mail - Plastic windows okay
  • Boxboard - Cereal, shoe, cracker boxes, etc. Remove plastic liners.
  • Newspapers/inserts
  • Magazines/catalogs
  • Paper bags
  • White and colored office paper
  • Corrugated cardboard - Flatten, remove tape and string.
  • Paperbacks and phone books
  • Pizza boxes - EMPTY; grease is okay
  • Gift wrap (no metallic or glitter), gift bags, cards

No soda or beer holders/cartons.
No waxed paper or waxed cardboard.
No paper egg cartons.
No shredded paper.
Why not?

CONTAINERS

Keep these materials together and separate from paper

  • Glass bottles/jars, only clear, green, or brown, less than 2.5 gallons - Labels and neck rings are ok
  • Aluminum, tin/steel cans and lids and aluminum foil - Labels are ok.
  • Milk & juice cartons (tent top), drink boxes - Remove straws & caps, flatten.
  • Plastic bottles, jars, and tubs. Remove pumps and wraps. Caps, labels, and detergent spouts may be left on.
  • Clear plastic cups.
  • Clear plastic egg cartons.
  • No light bulbs, window or auto glass, dishes, glasses, Pyrex, ceramics, or broken glass.

No paint cans or other metal objects. No plastic bags, containers over 2.5 gal., motor oil jugs, chemical or Styrofoam containers or flower pots. No aerosol cans. Why not?

Tips for Recycling Other Materials...

Rechargeable Batteries
Clothing

Can be recycled at the Call2Recycle boxes at transfer stations, Town Halls in Erving, Gill, and Sunderland, or brought to the FCSWMD office.

Goodwill and Salvation Army take clothes, shoes, and housewares.
Books
Wire Hangers
Donate to libraries. Some book stores buy used books. Some town transfer stations have a book recycling box. Accepted by many dry cleaners in the region. May be accepted in scrap metal locally.
Plastic Bags
Polystyrene "Peanuts"
Recycled at some area supermarkets - Yes/no guidelines for plastic bag/film recycling in stores: www.plasticfilmrecycling.org. Some package shipping businesses will accept these for re-use.
